Mac and cheese

If you are like most people, you’ve had a special place in your heart for mac and cheese longer than you can remember. It’s a popular request among kids, and people rarely lose their taste for it over time. In particular, when you try this creamy, gooey, mouth-watering recipe from The Magical Slow Cooker, you may fall in love with mac and cheese all over again. So get out your slow cooker – make sure it is at least four quarts or larger – and get cooking.

This recipe is overflowing with deliciousness because it’s loaded with delectable ingredients that pack a punch. The cream cheese, sharp cheddar, and white cheddar unite to create a harmony of flavor, joined by a somewhat anonymous star: milk. Here’s a look at everything you will need in order to get started.

  • nonstick cooking spray
  • 2 cups of pasta
  • 8 oz. of cream cheese, cubed
  • 2 cups of shredded sharp cheddar cheese
  • 2 cups of shredded sharp white cheddar cheese
  • 2 cups of milk
  • 1 tsp. of salt
  • 1/4 tsp. of pepper

To begin, you’ll want to cook the pasta to al dente. As you do that, spray your slow cooker down with nonstick spray. Once your pasta has reached al dente, add it to your slow cooker along with the softened cream cheese and the two freshly shredded cheeses and seasonings. Pour in your milk and then stir everything together until it is all well combined. Then, cover and cook on high for two hours, stirring occasionally. When your cooking time is up, add a layer of shredded cheese on top and put the lid back on for about 10 minutes while the cheese melts. Serve and enjoy.

Make The Recipe Your Own

Interested in experimenting with the recipe to see how you might be able to change it up a bit? Consider using a different pasta such as penne or cavatappi. In addition, you may want to consider subbing in different cheeses such as sharp cheddar, mozzarella, American, gruyere, or smoked gouda. You can even spice things up a bit by using pepper jack.
