Try These Fun Stained Glass Cookies
These stained glass cookies are as delicious as they are gorgeous and they’re a ton of fun to make, too. You and your children will enjoy making them.
Ingredients
- 1 cup powdered sugar
- 1 large egg yolk
- 1 1/2 teaspoon of vanilla extract
- 3/4 teaspoon of kosher salt
- 1/8 teaspoon of almond extract
- 3 cups of all-purpose flour (you will need additional flour for dusting)
- 20 pieces of fruit flavored hard candy
You will also need a set of decorative cookie cutters of varying sizes.
Candy Center Instructions
To create the stain glassed center for your cookies start by choosing the colors that you would like to use. Unwrap the candies and place the candies that are the same color into plastic bags. Use a rolling pin to crush the candies into pebble sized pieces. Don’t crush them too much you don’t want a fine powder, you just want them small enough to work melt easily. Once you’ve crushed the candies set them aside for later.
Cookie Dough Instructions
- Using a large stand mixer fitted with a paddle attachment, beat butter and powdered sugar just until combined. (Note: It should only take around 30 seconds. The mixture doesn’t need to be light and fluffy)
- Scrape down the sides then add the egg yolk, vanilla extract, salt, and almond extract. Mix on low just until combined. (15 seconds)
- Scrape down the sides again, then add half of the flour. Mix on low until combined. Add the remaining flour and mix on low until a dough begins to form.
